Now Showing

Movie Night

I'm into saving these days so rather than buy boxed honey garlic chicken wings or the cooked ones at 711, hubby suggested that we make our own. I used the chicken strips I normally use for Lance's chicken tenders, seasoned them with salt, pepper, garlic powder, rolled in flour then fried, coated with honey afterwards before serving them with pizza.

We definitely enjoyed the honey garlic chicken strips, pizza and the movie :D

From Our Table

Another week has passed, only two more before Christmas! I gotta start planning our menu, one for the potluck and our Christmas eve menu of course. Then another potluck for a New year's party, a bridal shower and Lance's Birthday party. Oh and my birthday too! Which I don't plan to celebrate :D

I have no idea when to start, I am really BUSY these days. Weekdays are for the kids and anything coupon related. Weekends are for chores I didn't do the rest of the week.

Didn't forget my cooking responsibilities though. Thank you for instant noodles, canned ham, eggs, frozen pizza and frozen veggies for making my life easier and our tummy fuller.

scrambled egg and ham for breakfast
Hubby's fave--instant noodles with egg
Buffalo ground burgers
chicken stir fry with Szechwan sauce
shrimp balls

Tired, but with good food all week long? I ain't complaining. Bring it on :D

A Family Favorite

My family loves pizza. I am not a huge fan of pizza even when I was younger. I can eat a slice or two and I'm done unlike my brother who can finish the whole if I remember it correctly. My favorite back then was the  Shakey's thin crust pizza, that I can eat up to three slices maybe but then again who can eat the pizza when your stuffed with their chicken and mojo potatoes? Drool!

Fast forward to the present time. My son is a pizza lover. Leila too I guess because she eats everything. We used to buy Lance the small ones. I heat them for two minutes in the microwave and they're done. He used to like them a lot until we discovered Donatello's Cheezy Melt pizza. This pizza is to die for not to mention it's the cheapest among the frozen pizzas. My kids love it, my hubby and I love it, we all love it! I've never liked pizza especially those that don't have much toppings, but this? It doesn't taste cheap and it tastes way better than the others. This is just an honest opinion from the newest pizza lover :D

A Week's Kitchen Activities

The kids have been helping in the kitchen quite a lot these past few days and they wouldn't cook anything other than their favorite puto. They had fun making colorful ones, they love the mixing part and putting cheese. Lance can finish a dozen in one sitting while Lei can finish all the cheese :D

Aside from the puto, the kids also love making pizza. This time we didn't make the dough anymore. I used leftover bread which I usually save for making garlic bread. Lance brushed the pizza sauce while Lei was in charge of the toppings. Another fun activity and snack afterwards for my kids.

Since it was St. Patrick's Day last Wednesday, I asked the kids if they wanted to eat something green, only Lei grabbed the offer with too much excitement opting for green milk. Yesterday, she requested for purple milk and according to her it was delicious.

I now have cans and cans of coconut milk in my kitchen cupboards and as I was arranging them, I saw a bag of dried taro leaves which we purchased last month. I realized I haven't cooked them yet because I keep forgetting to buy shrimps but since I couldn't wait no more, I decided to cook Laing (Taro leaves with Coconut Milk) and just put pork instead. It was my first time to cook this dish and the recipes on the internet were quite confusing so I just threw all the ingredients in a pan (garlic, onion, ginger, pork, taro leaves, coconut milk and shrimp paste) cooked them in medium fire without stirring. Both my Mom and my mother in law can cook delicious Laing and mine was also good for a first timer. For me it was delicious and the most important thing was it wasn't itchy on the throat. We ate it for three days I think and it was still yummy. I can't wait to buy another bag of dried taro leaves. I'll remember to buy shrimps too, or crabs and lots and lots of chilies!!!

Pizza Day

Since the kids see how much I love to cook, they are also developing great interest and would often drag their orange chairs to the kitchen insisting to help in their own little ways. My little helpers are always eager to mix, add this and that, often driving Mom crazy.

After my experiments with sticky rice this morning, it's now the kids' turn along with Daddy to bond and create something in the kitchen. They made pizza from scratch, down from the dough and they got to choose their own toppings.

The kids enjoyed the experience, they even watched while the pizza was baking. It was a fun afternoon and we finished everything, dinner will be later than usual I guess :D
